In life I have discovered that there are multiple ways one may find success. Sometimes we find success by traveling down the road that is preferred and is well traveled. However, success can also be discovered if we end up traveling along the road that is less desirable and not as poplar. Well, one could ask themselves the question, “Which way was the right way?” It’s encouraging to know that there isn’t only one way. Whichever way you ended up traveling, could turn out to be the right way for you to achieve success.
Although, that is the guiding principle that charts the way of mankind everywhere, it does not pertain to all of the affairs of men/women. Yes, there is an exception to this principle that I would like to discuss. It is called the “fallen nature.” Precisely, what is the “fallen nature” and how do we deal with it?
First, we must understand that the “fallen nature” lies within all of us? There are varying degrees of this “fallen nature” that finds expression in a person’s life, but it is one of those things that all humans have in common.
A misnomer that currently exists in our world today is, if a person is a pretty, good citizen and has not violated the laws of the land in a major way, then they are considered to be a good person. It is not so easy to see the “fallen nature” active in that person’s life.
Nevertheless, we are witnessing more and more common, everyday “good people” committing random acts of violence and heinous crimes. Society usually can understand it a little more if the person that committed the offenses was raised in an environment that is conducive to criminal activity or they live in the red light district of town. But we are now seeing persons in the middle and upper class, the educated and privileged, white, black and brown that are committing these crimes and is leaving us clueless as to what is going.
The news networks spend hours upon hours discussing what the possible motive of the suspected criminal was, searching for the answer externally, while this is an internal problem and the answers can only be found internally.
This “fallen nature” has existed since the beginning of time. The Bible lets us know that it was the result of Adam and Eve rebelling against God in the Garden of Eden. Although they were deceived by the devil to eat the forbidden fruit, God had warned them in chapter 2 of Genesis not to eat the forbidden fruit. God told them that the end result would lead to death, but they did not fully understand the severity of their choice to eat the forbidden fruit. Neither did they know that their decision to disobey God would adversely affect the entire human race, but it did.
As result the “fallen nature” became a reality. The fallen nature seeks to destruct and destroy. The fallen nature opposes God in every way. In this life, the “fallen nature” can’t be removed from the heart of mankind, but it can only be contained or brought under subjection to the will of God. The Bible states in Jeremiah 17:9, “The heart is deceitful above all things; and desperately wicked: who can know it?” However, God can enable a person to contain this “fallen nature” or bring it under subjection. The Bible says in Proverbs 25:28 that a person who doesn’t have rule over his own spirit is like a city without walls. In biblical times, it was unheard of for a major city not to have a wall of protection around it. The purpose of that wall was to keep the city from being invaded by enemy forces.
If a person doesn’t have an abiding relationship with God they do not have control over their own spirit. At any given time the enemy that dwells within man, the “fallen nature” can rise up and attack us from within. That’s what happening, the fallen nature is causing mankind to destroy one another. Mankind is self-destructing because they have forsaken God.
As bleak as this may seem, there is hope. It will not end in total annihilation. The Bible tells us in Genesis 3:22, what the remedy is for this condition that ails mankind. In fact, the LORD God said it is the only Way that the curse caused by Adam and Eve rebelling against God can be reversed. Mankind must now eat fruit from the Tree of Life.
The Tree of Life? Where is this Tree of Life? Better yet, who or what is this Tree of Life? Well, I will not even attempt to define what or who this Tree of Life is. However, I will simply give you the scriptures found in the Holy Bible concerning what or who this Tree of Life is.
