“For it is written, As I live saith the Lord, every knee shall bow to Me, and every tongue shall confess to God.” Rom. 14:11
In the gospel of John 19 we first learn of the Judgement Seat of Christ in verse 13. At that time, it was not considered to be a place of honor or victory, but it was a place of reproach. It was where a person had to go to stand trial to determine if they were innocent or guilty of a crime.
The interesting thing about the judgement seat that Christ had to sit upon was it was unmerited. He had done nothing wrong. I Peter 2:22 says that Christ knew no sin, neither was guile found in His mouth. Yet, we find Jesus being judged for something He simply did not do. Even Pilate knew this man was not guilty and tried to find reasons to release Him. But the religious leaders of the day demanded that Jesus be killed by way of Crucifixion, a malefactor’s judgement.
What, an innocent man!? In the gospel of Matthew, Judas Iscariot realized the sin that he had committed when he acknowledged that he had betrayed innocent blood. But the religious leaders said, “What is that to us?” Although, God told the Israelites in Deuteronomy 19:10 that innocent blood is not to be shed.
Jesus fulfilled an Old Testament typology that the blood of the innocent must be shed for the guilty. All of the sacrifices that God required was based upon this principle. In fact, when Adam and Eve had sin, the Bible says that their eyes became open and for the first time they realized they were naked. So, God had to kill an innocent animal and used its skins to cover their nakedness.
Likewise, the innocent life of Jesus and His vicarious death on the Cross was used to cover the shame of our nakedness, also known as our sins, and He redeemed us unto God.
In closing, I submit unto you that the Judgement Seat of Christ was originally a place of scorn and reproach, but now it has become a place of honor and victory. It shall be celebrated among all believers will soon!
The Bible says that all of mankind will confess. What shall we confess?
JESUS IS LORD!
