Is the Supreme Being, who is also called by the name Jehovah or more commonly known as God, real? This is the question that has lurked in the heart of man for thousands of years now. By the grace of God, the eyes of my heart have been opened to believe on Him, but what if a person has not received divine enablement to believe on Him. Is there sufficient evidence that affirms God’s existence?
Merriam-Webster defines the word evidence as something that furnishes proof. The one characteristic that validates God as being the Supreme Being is His sovereignty. He alone has the ability to depict what is going to happen in the earth before it happens. Nothing catches Him by surprise. The state of our world is in a chaotic condition that saddens me, but the Bible said it would be like this as we approach the Second Coming of Christ. Yes, it is disappointing to see the civil unrest, the fires in the West, the storms in the East and the earthquakes in divers places. But it doesn’t come as a surprise to God and it shouldn’t be a surprise to those of us that are in Christ and believe the account of the Bible, where it plainly says that these things must be before the return of Christ.
Did not the Bible foretell of these days thousands of years before they found fulfillment? It stands to reason that the same source that revealed these tumultuous times that we are living in would also have the answer to today’s problems.
In the book of Genesis in chapter three after Adam and Eve had fallen from grace, God stated how mankind would be restored. In the third chapter of Genesis beginning at verse 22 it reads, “And the LORD God said, Behold, the man is become as one of us, to know good and evil: and now, lest he put forth his hand, and take also of the tree of life, and eat, and live for ever:”
The Tree of Life is Jesus Christ, the Son of the Living God. Although at the time that God the Father declared how mankind would be restored, the Son of God had not yet been incarnated as the Man, Christ Jesus. Therefore, the Tree of Life was not accessible. Nevertheless, God the Father in His Omniscience declares how it was all going to go down and He informs us of this at the very beginning of creation. Therefore, the story of Redemption can’t be considered an afterthought, but it was intentional and it reveals the love that God has for us.
Even though it would be thousands of years before it would be fully realized, the Bible says that the angels rejoiced when Jesus Christ was born, saying, “Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward mankind.” The promise that God made unto mankind at the beginning of time had finally become a reality in the earth.
In the Gospel of John 15:5, Jesus tells His disciples, “I am the Vine (Tree), ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing. 6 If a man abide not in me, he is cast forth as a branch, and is withered; and men gather them, and cast them into the fire, and they are burned. 7 If you abide in me, and my words abide in you, ye shall ask what ye will, and it shall be done unto you.”
So what remains unclear is, why aren’t more people excited about the Return of Christ? We know why the world is not excited about His return, because they choose not to believe. But the question of concern is why aren’t more Christians genuinely, excited about the return of Christ?
There are multiple reasons for this behavior which we will discuss in detail:
- There is a misguided understanding that the Return of Christ is the end of life here on earth and people are not necessarily ready to go to heaven. Plus, they think they have to stop dreaming or give up on their dreams.
ANSWER: This is wrong. The return of Christ will not be the end of civilization on earth, however, it will be the beginning of the Reign of Christ. You will still be able to dream and have aspirations for yourself. There will still be a sense of accomplishment that you experience when you reach your goals. The main difference that will exist is there will no longer be an evil, opposing force present in the earth to hinder you. There will be some challenges that life will present, but nothing like we deal with on today. O Happy Day!
The primary reason of Christ’s return is to fulfill the prophecy of Who He is. Many people do not reverence or believe that Jesus is the Son of God. You don’t believe this is true? Just post something on FB declaring that Jesus is Lord and watch how many people will laugh or mock you. So, Jesus must return to settle the lingering question of His Lordship and to stop the mouths of the gainsayers.
Christ is also returning to increase the joy of those of us who believe. (John 15:11).
Plus, do you recall the Lord’s Prayer? “Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done ON EARTH as it is in Heaven.” This special time is called the Millennial Reign of Christ spoken of by the prophet Isaiah in the ninth chapter of the book, beginning with verse six. (Isaiah 9:6)
- This life is to be enjoyed, it is a gift. But we must take the necessarily steps not to allow the affairs of this life to consume us. If we are not watchful and prayerful, this life will consume you. Not that you are a sinful or evil person, but life has an intoxicating element to it like an alcoholic drink. That is why the Bible says on multiple occasions that we must strive to remain sober. It seems like the better life is to us the more we desire of it.
ANSWER: Actively engage in supporting the work of the Lord, tangibly. Rather it is a local church or a non-profit organization that’s working to meet the needs of those that are less fortunate. It’s important that you engage in serving your fellow man as a service unto the Lord. The actual act of serving or giving will not guarantee you a place in Heaven or send you to Hell. But the principles of serving and giving helps us to develop a God-fearing spirit that keeps us spiritually sober.
- DISTRACTIONS OF THE DEVIL. The distractions in the church world have dramatically increased. The danger is the devil has deceived the hearts of men to believe these distractions are a service unto the Lord. They don’t even recognize that these distractions have become more of a hindrance to the people of God. They see these distractions as church work and they busy themselves the more, thinking they are doing a service unto the Lord.
ANSWER: Love the Lord with all thy heart, body and soul. Even if you get off track, if your love for God is genuine and you have been Born Again. The Lord will keep you and help you to regain your focus on God.
In closing, I submit unto you the evidence that validates the Reality of God. You may choose to accept it or reject it, that’s between you and God. I was only instructed to present it. However, my prayer is that you will accept it and govern yourself accordingly. To God Be The Glory!
